Dustin Celebrates a Remarkable Prix de West Debut

For artists of the American West, few milestones carry the prestige and significance of being invited to exhibit at Prix de West. Hosted annually by the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Prix de West is considered one of the premier exhibitions of Western art in the world, bringing together many of the finest painters and sculptors working today.

This year marked a major career achievement for sculptor Dustin Payne as he participated in the exhibition for the first time as a Guest Artist. The experience exceeded every expectation.

Payne debuted two new bronze sculptures, In the Land of Will James and Trail Dust, each reflecting his deep appreciation for the people, horses, and stories that shaped the American West. Collectors responded enthusiastically, making his first appearance at Prix de West an extraordinary success.

A Strong First Impression

Entering a show of this caliber for the first time can be both exciting and humbling. Prix de West attracts serious collectors from across the country, many of whom return year after year in search of exceptional artwork. To be invited is an honor. To have collectors embrace your work so enthusiastically is something even more special.

For Payne, the show provided an opportunity to introduce his work to a new audience while reconnecting with longtime supporters who traveled to Oklahoma City to celebrate the occasion. Throughout the exhibition weekend, visitors gathered around his sculptures, sharing stories, asking questions, and connecting with the narratives captured in bronze.

"It was an incredible experience from start to finish," Payne said. "The collectors, the museum staff, the artists, and everyone involved made it a memorable week. I was honored simply to be included, and I'm deeply grateful for the response to my work."

In the Land of Will James

One of Payne's featured works, In the Land of Will James, pays tribute to the enduring spirit of the American cowboy and the landscapes that inspired legendary Western writer and artist Will James. The sculpture captures a quiet moment that speaks to the independence, grit, and authenticity that continue to define the West.

The piece resonated strongly with collectors and visitors alike, drawing attention for both its storytelling and craftsmanship.

Trail Dust

Payne's second exhibition piece, Trail Dust, celebrates the movement and energy of the working West. Rich with character and atmosphere, the sculpture reflects the everyday experiences that have long inspired Payne's artistic vision.

Together, the two works represented the themes that have become hallmarks of his career: honest storytelling, historical authenticity, and a deep respect for Western heritage.

Looking Ahead

Prix de West has launched the careers of many of the most respected artists in Western art, and Dustin's successful debut marks an exciting new chapter in his journey as a sculptor.

Over the past decade, Payne has earned recognition through major exhibitions, museum acquisitions, and national awards. His acceptance into Prix de West represents another important milestone and places his work among some of the most accomplished artists in the field today.

Most importantly, the experience reinforced what has always driven his work: creating sculptures that honor the people and traditions of the American West.

As Dustin returns to the studio with new ideas and renewed inspiration, he extends his sincere gratitude to the collectors, friends, fellow artists, and supporters who helped make his first Prix de West such a memorable success.

Thank you for being part of the journey.
